Four Letters to Mahler is an eight channel sound work based on four letters that Arnold Schoenberg wrote to Gustav Mahler in 1909-1910. Each letter was recorded from live narration, directed, and read in English with German accent and intonation. The readings were manipulated and processed to varying degrees electronically, involving degrees of delay and distortion. There are twelve variations of each letter and all channels are played simultaneously and continuously generating an unpredictable and continual sound collage.
